About Dorene Sykes Photography
Our mission is to capture images of people at places they love and turn them into memorable works of art. Portraits of families in natural settings on Cape Cod, such as beaches and homes, is our specialty.
Dorene Sykes, owner/photographer, became interested in photography when she was a liberal arts student in Michigan. After taking many photography classes at Wayne State University, she moved to New York to study at the Germain School of Photography and prepare for a career in photography. But after completing the Commercial Photography program, an opportunity to work for the United Nations led towards a Master of Business Administration degree from Boston University and a marketing career in the software industry.
In 2004, two of Dorene's dreams came true. She settled with her husband on picturesque Cape Cod. And she began her second career as a photographer. Creating family portrait art at places meaningful to clients, and seeing their eyes light up with pride, is her greatest joy. She also enjoys creating portraits in the studio year round for anyone who would like a flattering portrait - for business or personal use. As an educator at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Art, Dorene is thrilled to be helping others discover the joys of photography through regularly scheduled classes and one-on-one coaching.
Dorene Sykes Photography is a member of the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce, Professional Photographers of Cape Cod, Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts, and National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Dorene stays abreast of new portraiture techniques by attending seminars and workshops hosted by these organizations and held at the New England Institute of Professional Photography.
Dorene Sykes is a Juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Art Association, a member of the Falmouth Artists Guild, and a member of other arts organizations on the Cape. Her fine art photographs have been accepted into all juried shows entered. Many have won awards.
On a personal note, Dorene enjoys classical and folk music. She has sung with chamber to large choral groups most of her life. She is also an amateur genealogist. Knowing the degree to which family photographs are cherished by future generations drives her to create portraits of the finest quality.
Dorene Sykes Photography gives back to the community by supporting nonprofits with photography services. Recipients include: Cantus Novus, Community Health Center of Cape Cod, Falmouth Artists Guild, Falmouth Chorale, Falmouth Education Foundation, Falmouth Historical Society, Falmouth Newcomers Club, Highfield Hall, Solstice Singers, Vineyard Swordfish, WCAI NPR Radio, and Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth.
With a passion for excellence, Dorene works diligently, in partnership with professional imaging labs and suppliers, to create the finest portraits possible - works of art that clients are proud to display on their walls and give as gifts.
